Working With Mouldings

August 26, 2025August 26, 2025

The Moulding page lets you view Moulding details and create your in-stock store inventory of Moulding supplies in the LifeSaver Software software. You can control your store’s cost, size specifications, or preferred markups to provide your customers with accurate pricing.

Pro Tip: The LifeSaver Software software automatically updates Moulding product and price changes for you for any vendor you have selected. You will never need to update these yourself. However, if you have created in-store stock based on any of these products, you will need to periodically view the details of the original vendor item and compare them to your store stock making updates to your store stock as necessary.

To access this feature, click the Moulding button on your Home page.

Relevant Store Configuration Settings

A variety of options in your Store Configuration can affect how you use Mouldings. Click the Store Configuration button on your Home page to access these settings. On the Settings tab of your store configuration, you will want to review these options:

  • Default Moulding UOM (Unit of Measure)
  • Lock Moulding UOM
  • Moulding Waste Per Corner
  • Use Default Fitting Charge
  • Prompt To Check Fillet Width
  • Use LJ Moulding Footage Formula
  • Additional Amount Per Foot
  • Moulding Minimum Footage

You will also want to review the settings on the Live Inventory Check tab. This tab will ask LifeSaver Software to perform checks on inventory levels as you add Larson-Juhl, Omega, or Roma Mouldings to a work order.

The Moulding Page

You can view the details of your Moulding supplies by the vendor who supplies them on this page. You can also create and edit in-store stock Moulding, print labels for your Mouldings, deactivate or reactivate your store Mouldings, and even add vendors from here.

Click the Moulding button on your Home page to access this page.

  1. Select Vendor – Select the Vendor for which you want to view Mouldings. Vendors are pre-loaded into your LifeSaver Software software. Once you select a Vendor from the drop-list, all of that vendor’s Moulding inventory will load. You can use the vertical scrollbar and page arrows (in the bottom-right corner) to navigate to the Moulding you need.
  2. Moulding Search – To search for a specific Moulding from a vendor, select the vendor in the Select Vendor drop-list and then begin entering the item number, color, width, Moulding name, or other identifying information. The LifeSaver Software software will automatically start searching for matches supplied by that vendor as you type. For example, you might select Roma Moulding in the Select Vendor drop-list and then start entering Ramino in the moulding search to find all of the Ramino options offered by Roma Mouldings. You can use the vertical scrollbar and page arrows to navigate to the Moulding you are looking for or you can enter more specific details in the Moulding Search field to reduce the number of results found.

Pro Tip: You must enter search criteria that matches the order of the text in the Name or Description column. For example, if you want to find “Ramino 1 ½ Black and Gold”, you cannot type “Black Gold” and get any results. You must type “Black and Gold” or another variant of the full Moulding description.

  3. Create Moulding – Click this button to access the Create / Edit Store Moulding page where you can add a new Moulding for your store stock. Unlike Mouldings listed by vendor, Store Mouldings are editable so you can set all attributes of the new Moulding.
  4. Add Vendor – Click this button to add a new Moulding Vendor option to your LifeSaver Software software. This will open the Vendor Search page where you can follow the standard steps to add a vendor in LifeSaver Software.
  5. Name – This column shows the name of the Moulding vendor you selected in the Select Vendor drop-list, above.
  6. Description – This column shows a brief description of the selected vendor’s Moulding offerings.
  7. UPC – This column shows the 12-digit UPC (Universal Product Code) assigned to the Moulding option.
  8. Details – Click this button to access the Moulding Details page where you can view the product details of the Moulding, print a label for the Moulding, or add the Moulding to your in-store stock.
  9. Print Label – Click this button to print a label for this Moulding to your DYMO label printer. The label will include the Moulding number, description and barcode. Please note, you must install a DYMO label printer to use this feature.
  10. Page Navigation – Click the forward (>) and back (<) arrows to navigate to the next or previous page of Mouldings.
Image showing an example of the Moulding page of the LifeSaver software when the Store Moulding vendor is selected.
  11. Show Deactivated Mouldings – Click this check box to show any Moulding options that were previously marked Deactivated for this vendor.
  12. Edit – Click this button to access the Create / Edit Store Moulding page where you can print a label for the Moulding or edit any details except its vendor.
  13. Deactivate / Activate – Click the Deactivate button for any active Moulding to remove it as a selection when you create work orders. (It will not be deleted from the LifeSaver Software software.) To make a deactivated Moulding available again, first click Show Deactivated Mouldings, then click the Activate button on the desired item.

The Create / Edit Store Moulding Page

You can create or edit a Moulding option for your in-store stock on this page. The reason you might create a Store Moulding is so you’ll be able to fully edit it, as you cannot edit details of Vendor Mouldings. You can create store Mouldings from scratch by clicking the Create Moulding button on the Moulding page or you can create store Mouldings based on vendor supplies by selecting a vendor Moulding on the Moulding page, clicking the Details button, and then clicking the Create Store Moulding button on the Moulding Details page that will open.

Image showing an example of the Create / Edit Store Moulding page in the LifeSaver software with key features highlighted.

Pro Tip: You might need to edit a Store Moulding when a vendor makes price or product updates. These changes are automatically applied for the Vendor Mouldings but not for any Store Mouldings you have created based on the vendor’s product. We recommend that you pull up the original item’s details to observe if any price/product changes have taken place and then edit your corresponding store Mouldings.

At a minimum, enter a name and description, set the width, select a Moulding type, select a vendor supplier, and assign costs and markups to your new Mouldings.

  1. Name – Enter a name or Moulding number for the in-store stock Moulding in this field.
  2. Description – Enter a description for the in-store stock Moulding in this field.
  3. Vendor – Click the drop-list arrow and select the vendor that will supply your in-store stock. Only vendors currently downloaded in your LifeSaver Software software are available to select here. If you are editing a Moulding, the Vendor cannot be changed. If you need to add a similar Moulding from a different vendor to your store stock, do so by following Option 1 in ANCHOR LINK: Add a Moulding to your Store Stock, below.
  4. Width – Enter a width dimension of the Moulding to calculate footage. Your unit of measurement is set up in Store Configuration.
  5. UPC – Enter a UPC (Universal Pricing Code) to use for identifying and tracking this Moulding in your store.
  6. Bin – Enter the location in your store where the Moulding can be found.
  7. Moulding Type – Click the drop-list arrow and select the type of Moulding this is: Moulding, boxer, strainer, fillet, or readymade.
  8. Chop Cost – Enter the amount the vendor charges per foot for chop cuts of this Moulding.
  9. Join Cost – Enter the amount the vendor charges per foot for a pre-assembled product using this Moulding.
  10. Length Cost – Enter the amount the vendor charges per foot for full-length pieces of the Moulding.
  11. Other Cost – Enter any other costs associated with the Moulding.
  12. Chop Markup – Enter a markup amount to apply to your cost when you sell a chop cut of the Moulding. (Cost x Markup = Retail Price)
  13. Join Markup – Enter a markup amount to apply to your cost when you sell a join cut of the Moulding. (Cost x Markup = Retail Price)
  14. Length Markup – Enter a markup amount to apply to your cost when you sell a length of the Moulding. (Cost x Markup = Retail Price)
  15. Other Markup – Enter a markup amount to apply to your other cost when you sell the Moulding. (Cost x Markup = Retail Price)
  16. Print Label – Click this button to print a label for this Moulding to your DYMO label printer. The label will include the Moulding number, description and barcode.

Please Note: You must install a DYMO label printer to use this feature.

  17. Back – Click this button to return to the previous page.
  18. Save – Click this button to save your changes.

The Moulding Details Page

You can view the details of a vendor’s Moulding offerings on this page. You might need to do this to verify that the pricing and product details of a store Moulding you created based on this Moulding are still accurate. None of the values on this page can be altered, but you can create a new store Moulding based on this Moulding.

You can access this page by searching for a vendor Moulding on the Moulding page and clicking the Details button.

Add a Moulding to Your Store Stock

Your store Mouldings are any customized Mouldings that you keep in stock for your own use or for customer sales. These may be vendor Mouldings you’ve copied and customized with your own pricing and details or they might be Mouldings you create from scratch.

Option 1: Designate a Vendor Moulding as a Store Moulding

Saving a vendor's Moulding creates it as a custom store Moulding which allows you to make modifications to it such as to save a bin number or change the cost. When you do this, LifeSaver Software will use the custom Moulding’s pricing and details on any work orders you create rather than the vendor’s pricing and details. Additionally, creating a custom Moulding from a vendor Moulding exempts it from any automatic vendor updates. You will need to manually make any updates to this Moulding, such as when a vendor updates their pricing. If you deactivate the store Moulding later, LifeSaver Software will resume using the vendor’s pricing and automatic updates.

  1. On the Moulding page, select the Moulding vendor from the drop-list.
  2. Enter a Moulding code or other detail in the Moulding Search field to find the exact Moulding.
  3. Click the Details button for the Moulding you want to add as store Moulding and the Moulding Details page opens.

  5. Make any adjustments to the Moulding for your store stock (only the vendor cannot be changed) on the Create / Edit Store Moulding page and then click the Save button. The Moulding will now be listed on the Moulding page under the vendor and under the selection Store Moulding.

Option 2: Create a Store Moulding From Scratch

Creating a fully customized Moulding gives you greater flexibility in your offerings. Often, you might use this option when you stock or use Mouldings from vendors who are not loaded in the LifeSaver Software software or when customers bring in their own Mouldings. In the latter instance, creating a custom “customer” Moulding allows you to still assign and charge labor fees.

  1. On the Moulding page, click the Create Moulding button and the Create / Edit Store Moulding page will open.

  2. Enter any information relevant to the Moulding. At a minimum, give your Moulding a name and description, set the width, select a type, select a vendor supplier, and assign costs and markups. Each of these is defined in more detail, above: ANCHOR LINK: The Create / Edit Store Moulding Page
  3. When you’re finished entering details for your new Moulding, click the Save button. The Moulding will now be listed on the Moulding page under the vendor selection Store Moulding.

Add a Moulding to a Work Order

Image highlighting the Write Work Orders button on the Home page of the LifeSaver software.

You can add any of your Moulding offerings to a work order in just a few steps from the Work Order page. To get to this area, click the Write Work Orders button on the Home page.

Once you’ve entered a Description and Image Size, you can start working on other components of the work order, such as the Mouldings. Enter your Mouldings, stacked Mouldings, and fillets into the work order from outermost to innermost layers. In other words, enter the item furthest from the art in Moulding blank 1. Mouldings such as fillets are often entered last. Your Finished Size and Approximate Exterior Dimensions adjust as you add components to the artwork.
